History Of
LGBT+ Pride Parade
Taiwan’s first Pride parade was held in 2003, with only about 1,000 people. In 2019, Taiwan became the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, and that year’s parade was a celebration like never before. The 17th Taiwan LGBT Pride chose “同志好厝邊“ as the theme, which means being each other’s “good neighbour” by caring for and learning about these issues and then further supporting each other. According to the World Values Survey, over 50% of people of every age did not accept an LGBTQ+ neighbour in 1995; however, over 80% of those aged 20-29 and more than 64% of those aged 30-49 accepted an LGBTQ+ neighbour in 2012. It helped the success of the Same-sex marriage referendum in 2018.

On October 25, 2025, Taiwan will once again host its annual LGBT+ Pride Parade, one of the largest in Asia.
This year's event was originally set to be even more historic: the first-ever WorldPride in East Asia.
However, that dream was quietly set aside due to international political tension and unresolved disagreements.

About Taiwan
On May 24, 2019, Taiwan became the first Asia country to legalise same-sex marriage.
This historic milestone was not achieved overnight; it followed decades of activism, courage, and hope from LGBTQ+ communities and their allies. From early legal petitions in the 1980s to the landmark constitutional ruling in 2017, Taiwan’s journey reflects a deep commitment to equality, human rights, and love in all its forms.
